THE HARTFORD COURANT REPORTS ON FINANCIAL SHENANIGANS GOING ON AT CT DCF!

JACQUELINE RABE THOMAS  REPORTS AS FOLLOWS:

HARTFORD — A number of state employees at the Department of Children and Families routinely show up late for work and are still paid for a full day, state auditors reported Thursday.

The audit examined a sampling of 88 employees at four regional DCF offices and found that nearly a quarter were more than 10 minutes late 75 percent of the time.

"There is a serious lack of accountability over employee starting times. Employees appear to be compensated for time not worked," auditors John Geragosian and Robert Ward reported..."

  1. In classic Courant style, they left out the egregious fact that DCF doesn't require receipts for debit cards used costing taxpayers millions.

"The auditors also discovered that the agency wasn’t requiring its social workers to turn in the receipts for debit card purchases made on behalf of the children in their care.

Debit card purchases totaled $2.6 million over the three year audit period. Auditors reviewed 15 debit card purchases, five per year, and found that none had corresponding receipts. They were told submission of receipts for debit card purchases were not required."

  2. This is not true and if so its probably selected few.. The receipts are turned in by the foster parents and the care givers. Not the workers. In addition did they discuss the face that DCF workers use half their salaries to pay for lunch, and other items that children in their care need without ever being reimbursed. DCF owed workers thousands of dollars for monies spent on parking, children's basic needs like food, water etc because there no money appropriate or returned for these expenses! Who's not going to feed a hungry child in their care! DCF workers sometimes don't get home until 1am in the morning and their schedules are not flexed!
