"The legislature’s judiciary committee held a lengthy and often emotional public hearing on a bill that would make significant changes to the family court system.

Some parents say Connecticut’s family courts are in dire need of reform. In particular, they say the guardian ad litem system is “horribly broken.”

Guardians ad litem are sometimes appointed by judges to represent the interests of minor children in rancorous divorce cases. But some parents say the guardians have charged steep fees with little oversight and they are calling for an overhaul of the system."

EMOTIONS RUN HIGH! CT NEWS JUNKIE REPORTS ON GAL ABUSE!

Hugh McQuaid reports on last night's GAL hearing in the remarks below,

 

"Legislation changing how child custody cases are handled in Connecticut courts drew emotional testimony Monday from parents who feel wronged by the people the court assigns to represent their children.

 

The bill involves “guardians ad litem” who are assigned to represent the interest of minors in contentious custody battles. Last year, the legislature created a task force to study the system, which critics say lacks oversight and often leads to soaring legal expenses for parents. Some of the group’s recommendations were incorporated in the legislation, which allows parents to seek the removal of a guardian.

 

But some of the parents in the hearing room Monday said the bill does not go far enough because it does not create an oversight mechanism for GALs and it does not cap how much money they can earn working on individual cases."

"Quite a bit of controversy has been coming to light over practices that have been going on for decades. Please read Ms. Dornfield’s request to her family law peers: she suggesting her peers try to get out of court Monday to oppose an angry disgruntled group of parents. I believe she means the parents who testified January 9 and the climbing number of petitioners to GAL reform. I was at the testimony and gave testimony. I saw no angry parents, no disgruntled parents, just parents who and whose children have been victims of crimes committed by the very institution deemed to be the redress of problems. I signed the petition; it was absent righteous vitriol as well."

TORRINGTON DCF IS AT IT AGAIN STEALING CHILDREN FROM A LOVING MOM!

"Torrington DCF continues to be a concern to the families in this town, as children are being “seized” from good, loving homes. Many families within this town have fought tirelessly, including but not limted to Jamaal Jacob for the return of their children, many have still not been returned.  As more reach out for help, wanting to share their story about what is occurring, why are the families in this town such a target? Why does DCF not follow their own rules/guidelines, and ignore the law by not providing parents with their rights, the Mini Miranda.

 

It was Stephanie Criestman, another desperate parent looking for answers and an outlet, answers we could not give,a louder voice for her children we could. Stephanie is a proud mother of two young children ages 8 and 9, who were seized from her. The first “asset” was the 9-year-old, on January, 31st 2014. Mission, remove child from home, leaving mother to believe that Torrington DCF had no interest in seizing “asset” number 2, her 8 year old brother. Mother shared ” she is a beautiful, amazing little girl, I  love and adore her, she has  classic autism, she lights up the room with her smile”."

CORRUPTCT SPEAKS OUT ABOUT THE GAL PROBLEM IN CT!

"Family Courts in Connecticut have been doing more harm than good, as they continue to put parents in life altering situations. Guardian ad litems are appointed in many of these cases, to help the child, the result is hardly helpful. Connecticut’s family court system has become more about money, money made off of already difficult situation, leaving many parents broke. Children being torn between parents, as the G.A.L appointed, is not looking at the effect it is having on them."
