CT NEWS JUNKIE REPORTS THAT SENATOR LEN FASANO IS CALLING ON DCF COMMISSIONER JOETTE KATZ TO RESIGN!

Christine Stuart of "CT News Junkie" states as follows:
"Citing recent reports highlighting problems at DCF’s two locked facilities, Senate Republican Leader Len Fasano is calling on Department of Children and Families Commissioner Joette Katz to resign.
“Commissioner Katz’s autocratic leadership and misplaced priorities have undermined the effectiveness of her agency, put children at risk, and eroded public trust,” Fasano said. “Recent reports, including the Child Advocate’s report released yesterday, highlight the disturbing reality of persistent issues within DCF including the abuse of children at DCF’s locked facilities, the agency’s failure to investigate many of these cases, and a continuous struggle to embrace transparency.”
Katz was one of Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s first appointments. Malloy plucked Katz from the Supreme Court bench and said her work experience — first as a public defender and then as a judge — leaves her well-prepared to lead a bureaucracy that has “too often failed our children.”
DCF’s chronic problems have bedeviled governors for decades..."

CT NEWS JUNKIE REPORTS ON THE UPCOMING TASK FORCE ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE!

Madeline Stocker of CT NEWS JUNKIE reports as follows:
"The death of 7-month-old Aaden Moreno of Middletown was a painful reminder to lawmakers about why they created a new task force to look at family violence cases.
Moreno was allegedly thrown off the Arrigoni Bridge in Middletown by his father after a judge rejected a request for a no-contact order against him, citing a lack of “imminent harm,” court documents show
Moreno’s death and the events leading up to it are just one of the many cases the new task force on family violence will tackle when it convenes for its first meeting later this month.
Though the task force has not yet been fully appointed, Senate President Martin M. Looney and House Speaker Brendan Sharkey announced their appointments Wednesday at a Capitol press conference.
Looney named Karen Jarmoc, president and CEO of the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence, as co-chair."

CT NEWS JUNKIE PICKS UP THE STORY ON THE REAPPOINTMENT HEARING FOR JUDGE CHASE T. ROGERS!

Sarah Paduano reports as follows:

Parental rights advocates are using billboards on I-91 and
I-84 to call attention to family court reform legislation
leading up to Friday’s confirmation hearing of Chief
Justice Chase T. Rogers.

Rogers has been chief justice for eight years. She
was appointed to the position by former Republican
Gov. M. Jodi Rell and was renominated March 31
by Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy.

As chief justice, Rogers has become the target of
parents’ complaints. Last year, lawmakers used the
judicial nomination process to draw attention to family
court reforms, which eventually became law.

“We view the challenge to the Honorable Chase Rogers
to be an important moment to define the rights of
parents,”  Marisa Ringel, a member of the Coalition
for Connecticut Family Court Reform, said.
