HARTFORD COURANT REPORTS TIFFANY STEVENS IN MURDER FOR HIRE PLOT CUTS A DEAL!

CHRISTINE DEMPSEY AND DAVID OWEN OF "THE HARTFORD COURANT" REPORT AS FOLLOWS:

"HARTFORD — Tiffany Stevens was sentenced to probation Monday after she pleaded guilty to inciting injury to persons, bringing her murder-for-hire case to an end.

Her plea came in Superior Court shortly before 10:30 a.m. before Judge Edward J. Mullarkey. He then gave her a suspended, 10-year sentence followed by five years of probation.

She is not to have contact with the person she had targeted, her ex-husband.

Stevens' murder-for-hire trial ended in December with a mistrial after the three men and three women on the jury said they were hopelessly deadlocked.

The former Bloomfield resident was accused by Simsbury police of paying handyman John McDaid $5,000 to kill her former husband, Eric Stevens. Tiffany and Eric Stevens are engaged in a contentious dispute over custody of their daughter, and Eric Stevens told police and, according to trial testimony, McDaid that a large amount of money would go to the custodial parent.

Evidence presented during the trial indicated that the money did not exist..."

SALON REPORTS ON THE WOMEN OF THE MEN'S RIGHTS MOVEMENT!

KATIE MCDONOUGH OF SALON REPORTS AS FOLLOWS:

"The women of the men’s rights movement are an interesting lot. Anne Cools, who delivered the opening remarks at A Voice for Men’s inaugural conference, is the founder of one of Canada’s first domestic violence shelters, the first black person appointed to the Canadian Senate and the first black woman to serve as a senator in all of North America. But as Mariah Blake of Mother Jones pointed out in a piece on several of the movement’s most prominent women, Cools also believes that “behind every abusing husband is an abusing mother” and that feminism is a “personality disorder” that seeks to “dominate and terrorize.” Janet Bloomfield, the social media director for A Voice for Men, writes quite a lot about the respect she has for women and their many choices, but also thinks that single mothers are “bona fide idiots” who don’t “give a shit” about their children. (Bloomfield included these observations in a blog post on why men should never date single mothers. Most men, according to Bloomfield, prefer women in possession of a uterus with “no previous occupants.”)..."

US DOJ REPORT ON CONSTITUTIONAL VIOLATIONS IN ST. LOUIS COUNTY FAMILY COURT!

Justice Department Releases Findings of Constitutional Violations in Juvenile Delinquency Matters by St. Louis County Family Court

"Following a comprehensive investigation, the Justice Department today announced its findings regarding the Family Court of the Twenty-First Judicial Circuit of the state of Missouri, commonly known as the St. Louis County Family Court.  The Justice Department found that the family court fails to provide constitutionally required due process to children appearing for delinquency proceedings, and that the court’s administration of juvenile justice discriminates against Black children.  The investigation was conducted under the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, which gives the department the authority to seek a remedy for a pattern or practice of conduct that violates the constitutional or federal statutory rights of youths in the administration of juvenile justice..."

REVIEW OF MICHAEL KIMMEL'S BOOK "ANGRY WHITE MEN" IN "THE AMERICAN PROSPECT"!

DAVID FUTRELLE OF "THE AMERICAN PROSPECT" STATES AS FOLLOWS:

"The most surprising thing about Michael Kimmel’s new book Angry White Men is that the title was still available. We’ve been hit by wave after wave of angry white dudes for decades, from the so-called “silent majority” of the seventies incensed by “forced busing” and braless “women’s libbers,” to your Tea Partier brother-in-law who’s always forwarding terrible jokes about Obama being born in Kenya.

Largely ignoring Tea Partiers and Glenn Beck fans to focus on more extreme examples of angry white manhood, Kimmel, a sociologist at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and an influential writer on masculinity, devotes chapters to such charming folks as white supremacists, domestic abusers, and guys who “snap” and shoot up their schools and workplaces. Kimmel does an excellent job in explaining the whys and wherefores of racist skinheads and violent men and manages to write about some pretty damaged and hateful men with a remarkable degree of empathy. But he doesn’t ever get a firm grip on the most zeitgeisty of our zeitgeist’s angry white men: the men’s rights activists. As the proprietor of a blog devoted to chronicling (and mocking) misogyny online, I’ve spent the past three years tracking this aggrieved fringe group, which claims that in our binary gender system, it is men who have gotten the short shrift..."
