I just wanted to make sure everyone had the info about the hearing tomorrow.
Task Force to Study Legal Disputes Involving the Care & Custody of Minor Children Public Hearing LOB Room 2C
Testimony will be heard on a first come first serve basis. You need to be there at 8:30 am to sign up to testify. The fathers rights people aren't coming until after 9, but there will be a LOT of them and so we need to make sure our voices are heard before people start to tune out. Legislators need to see your faces in the hearing so that they understand this issue is so important that you were willing to take time off and go to the statehouse and tell them about it. This also ensures some level of accountability when they prioritize their reasons for voting in your favor or not.
Written testimony should be submitted to this email prior to the meeting:
Please bring 10 extra copies plus two additional copies for media of any testimony you intend to give so that committee members and media can have a copy if they want to review what you said or ask questions.
Your testimony will be published on the CT legislative branch website like this:
Make sure you put in actual dollar amounts about how much you spent on court related professionals. Make sure you reference how many AFCC affiliates were on your case.
Also, add at least 1 idea about how some part of the problem can be fixed.
In addition, everybody should include in their testimony the fact that the AFCC is a judicial branch vendor owned and operated by judicial branch employees and the people billing on your cases. This is a conflict of interest which you believe to be at the heart of the problem about why no one is ever held accountable for the financial and emotional devastation they have wreaked on your cases. Therefore, the judicial branch should be prohibited from doing business with the AFCC or having staff involved with their activities. The conflict of interest needs to be eliminated and those who judicial branch employees who founded the CT AFCC should be fired. There's no excuse for that level of corruption when we are talking about State paid and privately paid family court industry professionals who heavily influence cases involving connecticut's most vulnerable families. You expect accountability from the Legislature in terms of making sure that the taxpayer funded budget they approved for the Judicial Branch actually went to the troubled families it was intended to benefit, NOT the crooks who exploited your families hardship.
The testimony will be read privately by the legislators in their free time. Whether or not you choose to get up and speak at the hearing is up to you. However, I strongly suggest that you also speak at the hearing so that the legislators understand that this is a priority people are willing to take time off and trek down to the statehouse for, which is very important in terms of accountability.
